Lakenvlei 25 June 2005

Lakenvlei 25th June 2005

The weather in this part of the world (Ceres) gets breathtakingly cold as this time of the year and this was no exception. When we woke up on saturday morning, we could crack the ice out of the puddles. Rowan and I had already pumped up the floattubes and after kitting up in our waders, we were ready to go. It was before dawn and the water was around 10'c.
The fish were stocked a few seasons back and they grown well. The dam level was low and I was hoping that the fish were hungry.

we tried the inlet side on the dam but found it too shallow and moved off into deeper water.Rowan was fishing with a slow sinking line. I was fishing with a Di-7 line and a Mrs Simpson with a foam head - booby style. I find this method really works well for me at Lakies. The fish can hold deep and the booby lets you fish down without getting hooked on bottom structure too often. I caught some nice fish up to just under 4lbs and the fish were in beautiful condition, full breeding colours and strong as always! Rowan caught a beautiful brown as well!

We caught all through the day, but the fish were holding deeper during the middle of the day. The water was 36m deep at the wall and we caught them almost at that depth.

Besides from some very numb toes, a great day's fishing!

Brent - 8
Rowan - 1

Next trip: Elandspad - 2 October 2005

Main view of Lakies from the hut
Fish in full breeding colours
Back safely
Dam looking low
Nice brown trout
First one of the morning - really monster

My first post

Well, this is my first post. I felt that fishing trips are too amazing to experience only once so I wanted to share them again with myself and friends who were interested!

Welcome!
